Welcome to Ritter Furniture

Creating works of intrinsic and lasting value is our company's mission, original and evolving design is our furniture.

For more than 10 years designer Eric Ritter has been combining exceptional craftsmanship, resilient materials, and sustainable practices in these furniture designs.

The Morphology Series: A line of furniture based on ecological-design practices.

Reduce Reuse Recycle Resilient

The Morphology series has evolved out of a simple desire to combine wood and steel, art and design. In our chairs thin lines of the stainless steel merge with wood slats. These forms and angles engage many body sizes and shapes to provide comfort and awakening posture. The continuous line, the circle, are powerful symbols that strongly influence these furniture designs, both in form and in material use.

Why Stainless Steel?
We have chosen solid stainless steel for its (60-80%) high recycled content. The metal alloys we use will always be recycled for their intrinsic value, and represent a trend of up-cycling that should continue. Aside from being beautiful and reflective of its environment, stainless steel requires minimal maintenance and as a solid material the steel does not rust from within. The stainless steel in our products will not require toxic finishes that flake off into the environment.

Wood Without Waste!
We have drastically reduced the amount of wood used in a chair, while maintaining a luxurious surface to engage the body. We do this by using sliced sheets of domestic hardwoods and laminating the curves and surfaces back together. No kerf no milling = very little waste. To finish our wood surfaces we use only natural oils and stains.

Reclaim Reverence.
In addition to this line we are now working on a cabinet series, using reclaimed antique pine and fir which is milled into fresh material. This practice preserves trees, and makes old materials precious. We seek the best sections of clear grain wood and remove toxic finishes and paints in a clean milling process, or large beams salvaged from the past are milled into strikingly beautiful fresh lumber.

Energy Pollution Solution
All of our work is done with 100% emission free Maine derived electricity, which we purchase as an offset through Maine Renewable Energy, and this goes to support Maine’s Hydro-electric infrastructure and other renewable energy sources.
